Croatia has been experiencing a rise in number of tourists for the past several years, with 2016 topping the charts. According to official statistics 16.3 million tourists visited Croatia in 2016, which is a 2.2 million increase from 2015.

Split’s region was the third most visited with 16 million overnight stays. Split city had a total of 574.917 arrivals and 1.763.080 overnight stays, equaling a 27% increase in arrivals and 31% in stays from 2015. Evidently more and more tourists are choosing Split not only for a short sightseeing spot but as a true destination worth staying in for longer.

Most visitors to Split were from United Kingdom, Germany, United States, France, and Australia.

Split.gg setting new records as well

In 2016 our website had a total of 286.323 visits, averaging to 784 per day or over 23.500 a month. We recorded the highest amount of visits in August, with June and July closely following with 5% less.

Considering the number of tourists in Split during 2016, we estimate our travel guides were read by 49.8% of total Split visitors. That’s a number we’re most certainly very proud of, and with our continuous efforts we’re hoping to increase this number to well over 50% in 2017!

Split.gg 2016 stats:

  • Total visitors: 286.323
  • Highest daily average: 1598 (July)

Visitor countries:

Top 10 countries our visitors come from are United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada, Germany, Norway, France, Sweden, Finland, and Hungary. Note: our articles are only in English, so as expected we are more popular in English-speaking countries.

Topping our countries statistics is in fact Croatia, with a total of 81.192 tourists who were looking for travel information on our website. However, less than 2% of our total visitors have Croatian set as their browser language, essentially meaning while we get visitors from Croatia vast majority of them are tourists already in the country.

We’re excited for 2017!

Although this year just started, initial indications by tourist boards and agencies predict 2017 to be another record-setting year with an estimated 20-30% increase in arrivals, proving once again that Croatia is becoming an increasingly popular destination.

We’re already seeing a 40% increase in number of site visitors compared to last year, and with an increased interest of tourists in Croatia as their destination we are looking to establish Split.gg as the definitive authority for Split travel.
